Death of the Physical? Primary Care and its ‘Archaic’ Exam | Triple Helix Online

Somewhat rambling, but some good points on self-diagnosis versus regular physicals, and some data to back it up. Somewhat of a rebuttal to Eric Topal.

While I am a great fan of being an informed and empowered patient, this is to work better with my medical team, not replace them. I also think the once general review of health, like other forms of annual reviews, provides that occasion to review lifestyle and other habits that may be adversely affecting your health.

As one of my doctors put it, most of us do not challenge our garage when they say ‘this needs to be fixed’, we rely on their expertise unless it is too expensive and doesn’t sound right, and then we question or shop around.
