Another note of caution on the utopian view of transformative technologies, of which Eric Topol is one of the more well known proponents. Main point is that while all the technologies are good at increasing the quality and quantity of health-related data, this runs into two issues:
- sometimes too much data means pressure for too much and unneeded treatment (e.g., recent revisions to prostate and breast cancer testing guidelines)
- reimbursement models for doctors that are based on physical visits, not emails or telephone calls
