A Brilliant Reason to Dive Deep into the Social Media Health Space

A good summary of some of the opportunities and challenges of social media in the healthcare area. While the author’s overall approach is just to ‘dive in’, not sure how realistic for many in the healthcare sector (e.g., my medical team seems busy enough as it is and I would rather they focus on staying up-to-date in their field – and to do this well, requires incremental resources which are likely not available).

On the more encouraging side, a vision of how technology could lead to more efficiency for patients, doctors and pharmacies. As always, the challenge is having a back-office infrastructure to support this vision and demonstrate a good return on investment to government (or private insurance companies) and doctors (unfortunately, healthcare is organized around patients waiting for doctors, so patient time considerations are not ‘monetized’.
