Given the less comforting study about British civil servants mental capacity declining around age 45, a much more encouraging picture for those of us in middle age and beyond. Education and keeping mentally active help, and the useful distinction between ‘fluid intelligence’ (pattern recognition, working memory and abstract thinking) and ‘crystallized intelligence’ (experience based including verbal ability, inductive reasoning and judgement).

Or in other words, wisdom develops as we age!
